/ Ascot/July 19, 2022Guangzhou -- The GTFS fleet has so far saved more than 800 million gallons of fuel and avoided more than 8 million metric tons of carbon emissions

July 18, 2022, Farnborough, UK: Pratt & Whitney announced that it has begun commissioning the GTFS The Advantage engine configuration was tested for FAA FAR33 certification. With more than 15 million operational hours of experience, Pratt & Whitney continues to conduct extensive durability testing to ensure the maturity of products when they enter service. To date, the engine has completed more than 2,000 hours of development and validation testing, including a successful test of 100% sustainable jet fuel earlier this year. Rick Deurloo, president of Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines, said: "GTF Advantage creates significant value for our customers, particularly for long range aircraft such as the Airbus A321XLR. This will consolidate and extend the GTF's leading edge as the power of the A320neo family, be it in terms of sustainability, fuel efficiency or performance, and will deliver outstanding reliability from day one."

The GTF engine reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by a further 1% and improves efficiency by 17% over the previous generation engine. With a takeoff thrust of up to 34,000 pounds,GTF Advantage will also unlock more destinations for airlines by increasing payload and range. GTF Advantage is expected to be available to customers in 2024. "The GTF Advantage engine delivers more thrust, more airflow and improved aerodynamics, coating and compressor-turbine clearance control while operating at lower temperatures," said Jim Pennito, vice president of engines for Pratt & Whitney's A320neo family. The revolutionary geared turbofan enables us to do all of this. The GTF architecture lays the runway for our long-term lead."

The GTF Advantage engine will continue FAR33 certification testing on Pratt & Whitney's wing at the Mirabel Flight Test Bed in Canada later this year. The engine will also begin aircraft-level validation testing on the Airbus A320neo development aircraft in Toulouse, France.

The Pratt & Whitney GTF engine family has saved airlines more than 800 million gallons (more than 3 billion liters) of fuel and reduced carbon emissions by more than 8 million metric tons. More than 1,300 aircraft powered by GTF have been delivered to 62 operators across three aircraft platforms, including the Airbus A320neo, Airbus A220 and EMbraer E-Jets E2 family. Since entering service,GTF engines have carried out 4 million flights and transported more than 500 million passengers to destinations around the world.
