Mochi Technology: Biometrics has entered a new stage driven by credible development

In Hollywood blockbusters, there are often plots of "face changing" or fingerprint unlocking. In the drama, the characters change their identities in a moment by "putting on" the fake "face mask" or pressing the "stolen" fingerprint, thus affecting the direction of the plot.

After all, film is an art of entertainment, but in today's fingerprint, face recognition has a large area into our daily life, common in the newspaper and the Internet privacy information leakage, also let the security and credibility of biometrics again and again arouses people's nerves.

In fact, the protection of personal information has been raised to a higher legal level.

On November 1, the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China was officially implemented. On the basis of relevant laws, it further refines and improves the principles and rules for personal information protection and personal information processing, clarifies the boundaries of rights and obligations in personal information processing activities, and improves the work system and mechanism for personal information protection.

It is noteworthy that the law clearly lists biometric information and other information as sensitive personal information and one of the key protection objects, which has attracted more people's attention. The so-called biometric identification refers to the close combination of computer with optics, acoustics, biosensors and biostatistics principles and other high-tech means, using the inherent physiological characteristics of the human body (such as fingerprint, finger vein, face, iris, etc.) and behavioral characteristics (such as handwriting, voice, gait, etc.) for personal identity recognition and authentication.

Since biometric characteristics are inherent to the human body and have lifelong uniqueness, this biometric key cannot be stolen or forgotten, which has a natural advantage over traditional authentication technology. In view of these advantages, biometrics technology has been widely accepted by the society, and related industries are developing rapidly.

On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected the way identity authentication and access management is conducted, and it is also driving the continued growth of the biometrics market. The Frost & Sullivan report predicts that the global biometrics market will reach $14.12 billion by 2025.

With the large-scale application of biometric information, the protection of user privacy and security has been paid more and more attention.

It can be said that the personal information protection law is the "timely rain" in the intelligent and connected era we live in. It will not only regulate the collection and use of personal information, but also have a far-reaching and positive impact on the rapidly growing biometric technology industry. Whether it is for the protection of personal privacy or the security of the biometrics industry, it is inevitable to require biometrics to enter the trusted stage of privacy protection.

Credible biometrics start at the source

Without credible biometrics, a building on quicksand can collapse in a flash. As a new stage of biometrics technology, trusted biometrics will take its privacy and security protection to a new level.

As an innovator in the field of artificial intelligence and biometrics technology, Mochi technology believes that the premise of credible biometrics is to design a good protection mechanism at the source of data, that is, to create a credible biometrics technology should have "upstream thinking", set up a "barrier" from the "upstream", so that personal privacy information is difficult to be leaked, or even if leaked, it is difficult to obtain according to the leaked information Real original data, so as to achieve the protection of personal privacy information.

Among them, the most critical is that the biometrics technology does not store the original information at the initial collection of personal information, but by encrypting the original information and adding "noise" to the data, so that the data can be saved, and the encrypted and processed data can not be restored to the original data, so as to solve the protection of personal privacy information in the "upstream" and "source" Question.

Credible biometrics that protect privacy should have three characteristics

With the development of biometrics, new protection methods will appear. Mochi Technology further proposed that the trusted biometrics that can protect privacy should have three characteristics: irreversible, revocable and non-correlated.

Irreversible: that is, it is almost impossible to recover the original biometric template when the comparison features are given. This feature can prevent the abuse of stored biometric data to deceive or replay attacks. When the attacker cannot obtain the original template from the transformed features, it is equivalent to improving the security of the biometric identification authentication system.

Revocable: Once a biometric template is deemed unsafe, it can be safely deregistered and a new one issued. This makes the use of biometrics as reversible and changeable as the use of passwords.

Disassociation: Biometric profiles of the same user in different application systems are not associated with each other. Even if the biometric templates of one application are leaked, they cannot be cross-verified with those of other systems to protect user privacy.

In the future, it is believed that under the rigid constraints of personal information protection law, trusted biometrics technology will become a consensus and mainstream, and users, whether individuals, enterprises or institutions, will benefit from the protection of private information, so as to jointly promote the sound development of biometrics technology industry.
