/ Aswuntong/July 20, 2022 GUANGZHOU -- Denso (hereinafter referred to as "Denso") has developed EPS-MCU(electric power steering system control unit) technology based on years of accumulated on-board technology to improve the specifications of its "robot chassis". By envisioning the popularization of robots in the "factory/warehouse" and "one-kilometer distribution" scenarios, in order to further entrusting the reliability, flexibility and intelligence of the robot operation, it helps improve the factory production efficiency and logistics operation, and promotes the research and development.

Now factories in many places have been required to have "more categories and fewer batches" of production capacity, production line configuration needs to be updated frequently, robots need more flexible systems; Production lines are adjusted frequently, and AGVs in warehouses need to change their speed accordingly, but changing the delicate control of wheel movement means reprogramming them. Therefore, in order to ensure the efficient and stable output of the production line, the robot needs to have higher reliability and flexibility.

The Internet promotes the popularity of e-commerce. However, in the particularly important one-kilometer distribution link *1, it is difficult to predict the distribution area and route, which has become one of the reasons why automatic distribution robots have not been widely used.

In order to cope with the above problems, Denso uses EPS-MCU technology to improve the specification of the "robot chassis". The EPS-MCU system is the auxiliary steering function in the car, which can easily operate a car weighing several tons through the power assist steering wheel of the motor. Reliability, intelligence, low cost and high power are the characteristics of its auto parts.

, Help outdoor transportation

In outdoor environments, robots need larger tires and more power for better driving performance in order to handle unpredictable roads. However, increasing tyre size means reducing the driving force of the motor output. Denso's dual-system EPS-MCU can achieve sufficient driving force even if the tire size is increased. At the same time, the microcomputer equipped with high computing power can respond quickly according to the target value. For example, when the wheel feels bumps on the rugged terrain, EPS-MCU can quickly optimize the control of the wheel. So even in complex environments, robots will be able to operate smoothly and facilitate outdoor transportation.

Current AGVs usually carry PLCS for line tracking and communication control, but they are also more prone to errors due to their large size, high cost, and complex wiring. The EPS-MCU equipped with high performance microcomputer can realize the function of PLC, at the same time, the driver module side is also equipped with the basic control program, easy to operate at the same time can flexibly respond to changes. In addition, as a mass production of auto parts also has the advantage of "low cost", which can be replaced quickly when the product changes. In the future, Denso will continue to improve the technology under the technology accumulated in many fields. The possibility of driving modules is already being explored internally by teams developing autonomous driving, mobile chillers, agricultural robots and industrial robots. Based on the stable hardware and software foundation of EPS-MCU, it is expected to achieve higher adaptability and help bring great improvement to the society.

Denso continues to develop with the goal of creating a world that makes people easier and more creative. It is committed to providing low-cost, high-performance driving modules for automatic distribution robots, which will give the simple work of handling and distribution to robots, so as to give people more power to create new value and new things.

Note:

*1 One kilometer distribution refers to the distance from the logistics sorting center to the hands of consumers
